I think one of the true miracles in daily life is when we find just the right words to comfort or encourage another. That happened to me tonite and I'm still feeling pretty warm in inside. While attending a musical performance, a young man who was playing Bach and playing exceptionally well, missed a note, couldn't recover and froze. Later in the evening, I was able to get him on the side and share this story: When I was 10 or so, my Dad had me play my trumpet at a Lion's Club dinner. Same thing happened, blew a note and froze - could not get a sound from that horn. I left the stage terribly embarrassed. The Lions were great, applauded, no one laughrd but...
I shared that story tonite but I added one little piece, I said "It took me awhile to understand why they applauded. They applauded the notes I played well, not the note I blew. You need to remember that about your playing, we applauded the notes you played so well. Not the note you blew." I hope he got it. I think he did.
